Our tasks
The representative of the state to the federation safeguards the interests of the Federal State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with regard to the National Government and the other federal states. She has a staff of 23 to support her.
As the contact partner for all issues of interest for the state, the representative works closely with the federal ministries, the parliamentary groups in the Bundestag, parliamentary members from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, federal institutions, foreign diplomatic missions represented in Berlin, associations and representatives from industry, science, culture, the press, trade unions, churches and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

The tasks entrusted to the state representative also include keeping the State Chancellery and departments informed on the work of the German Government, the Bundestag, its committees and parliamentary groups as well as maintaining contacts with the regional groups of the parliamentary fractions in the Bundestag. For this purpose, the staff of the State Representation have the right – enshrined in the German Constitution – to participate in all plenary and committee sessions.

The staff of the state representation represent the State Government in the Bundesrat committees where they stand up for the interests of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Voting in the Bundesrat committees is carried out in coordination with the respective specialist department in the state.
The state representation is an attractive meeting place for federal, state and municipal politicians. The building offers events on current political, economic and cultural issues, which create awareness for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and its interests in political circles in Berlin.
