Regional partnerships
There are regional partnerships with:
Poland
Cooperation with Poland is centred on the partnerships with the voivodships of West Pomerania (Stettin) and Pomerania (Gdansk). Hundreds of joint projects, firm links and networks characterize these relationships Mecklenburg-Vorpommern works in the committees of the German-Polish Government Commission on behalf of regional and cross-border cooperation and in the Oder-Partnership network. Partnership agreements have been concluded by the state government with the voivodship of West Pomerania on June 18, 2000 and with the voivodship of Pomerania on January 15, 2001.
Finland
In April 2000, the Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the President of the South-West Region of Finland met in Turku to sign a "Joint Declaration on Regional Cooperation" between the two regions.
The USA
On 19 January 1994, a partnership agreement was concluded between Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Mecklenburg County, North Carolina (USA). There are historical links between the two regions.
Ukraine
On January 17, 2024, the state government concluded an agreement with the Ukrainian Chernihiv Oblast on a regional partnership. Among other things, the state is supporting the construction of shelters at schools with 250,000 euros. This means that Ukrainian children can be taught safely despite the war and the constant threat.
