Minister-President Erwin Sellering

Erwin Sellering has been Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern since 6th October 2008. He was confirmed in office by the Landtag on 25 October 2011 and 1 November 2016.

He leads a coalition government of the SPD and CDU, created as a result of the state election on 4th September 2016 for the seventh legislative period (2016 to 2021) of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Landtag.

The Minister-President determines the policies of the state and directs the business of the state government. He also presides as chairman at the state government sessions (Cabinet sessions). He represents the state abroad and he exercises his right to grant pardons on behalf of the state in an individual capacity. The Minister-President appoints and dismisses the ministers. His term of office (as well as that of the ministers) ends with the convening of a new Landtag.

Erwin Sellering lives with his wife Britta in Schwerin. He has two grown daughters and a small son. Sellering is a fan of the women's Schwerin SC volleyball team and is often to be found on the tribune at their home games. Hiking as well as weight and endurance training helps to keep him fit. Passions such as chess mostly fall victim to his concentration of appointments.

On 30 May 2017 he announced to retreat from his office due to health reasons.
