Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a federal state in which families feel at home. All children should get the best start in life, regardless of their social status. That is why the state government has been investing in early childhood education for years. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has one of the best ranges of daycare facilities on offer in Germany. The ministry is working on the further development of early childhood education. Investing in education – even for the very youngest – is an investment in the future.

Young families get support to ensure that their working and private life are compatible with each other. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a family-friendly state. Family policy is a major party of the ministry's portfolio.

It is women who are still mainly responsible for child-rearing or looking after dependent relatives. Women need to be better placed in their professional life; they must be able to return to good jobs; and they must be able to shape their working life in a family-friendly manner. The ministry, along with the Centre for Women and Equality, is responsible for dealing with issues of equality between men and women.

Many people who have had to leave their homeland because of wars and persecution have found a new home in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in recent years. The state wishes to give these people good prospects. Successful integration into society requires the support of each and every person in the state. The Ministry of Social Affairs, Integration and Equality works closely with municipalities in the state and numerous initiatives in order to shape integration.

In the coming years, the issue of care in old age will affect significantly more people than it does today. People are getting ever older and the need for high-quality care will increase. The ministry has already laid the foundations for this, so that no-one has to worry about receiving proper care in their old age.

Equality and the improved participation of people with disabilities in everyday life is another focal point.

Life in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is the focus of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Integration and Equality.
