The Ministry of Energy, Infrastructure and Digitalization of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

The ministry is responsible for taking important decisions on behalf of the people in our state, decisions that will not only shape their present lives, but also their lives in the future:

The Department of Infrastructure covers the production and maintenance of transportation routes, such as the building of roads and cycle paths, but also traffic regulations, such as air traffic permits. Public transport is also one of its tasks. The ministry is responsible for planning and basic regulations and supervises the Regional Office for Road Construction and Traffic as well as the road construction authorities.

The ministry is also in charge of port development. Thanks to the ports, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has evolved into an attractive logistics location, embracing, among other things, the transportation of freight on the roads, by rail and on the water.

The Energy Department handles the fundamental issues of energy policy. This includes electromobility, for which strategies to create the necessary infrastructure (together with the afore-mentioned traffic department) and achieve user acceptance are being established.

In addition, the ministry is dedicated to renewable energies, energy efficiency, climate protection and mining. It is also the licensing authority for new power lines.

The ministry is responsible for land allocation in the state. It arranges the regional development programme and helps regional planning associations to develop regional spatial development programmes. In spatial planning procedures with the regional planning and regional development offices, the ministry checks whether the objectives and principles of the spatial development programmes are actually complied with. The ministry attaches particular importance to the development of the new category of "Ländliche Gestaltungsräume", that is to say rural areas in special need of attention so that they can face the structural problems arising from demographic change.

The remit of the Construction Department embraces the issues of the building trade, construction engineering, housing, urban development, social housing and the urban development promotion programme. The ministry acts as the supreme building authority of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The ministry is also responsible for matters of digitalization. Apart from coordinating broadband expansion in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, this also includes establishing the state's e-government strategy.
